Kael

Chapter 3

Valtor, Raine, and Sylphia fought back with all their might, their swords and spells striking out at the rats. But the rats were relentless, their numbers seemingly endless.

"We have to keep moving!" Raine shouted, as she launched a fireball at a group of rats that had climbed up onto the bridge.

They ran as fast as they could, the rats nipping at their heels. The tunnel ahead seemed impossibly far away, and every second felt like an eternity. But they kept going, their determination pushing them forward.

Just when it seemed like they might make it, Kael stumbled, his foot catching on a loose bone. The rats swarmed around him, their teeth sinking into his flesh.

Kael scrambled to his feet, adrenaline pumping through his veins as he ran down the tunnel. The rats that pursued him were larger and fiercer than any he had seen before, their teeth bared and their claws scratching at the ground.

He heard the sounds of battle echoing through the tunnel behind him, the clash of steel and the crackle of spells. He turned to look and saw Raine casting spells and fighting off the rats, but she was overwhelmed by their sheer numbers.

With a burst of energy, Raine teleported herself away, leaving Valtor and Sylphia alone to face the rats. Kael could hear their screams and shouts as the rats swarmed over them.

He knew he should go back and help, but his fear held him back. He kept running, deeper and deeper into the sewers, hoping to find a way out.

As he turned a corner, Kael saw a glimmer of light in the distance. He picked up his pace, his heart pounding in his chest. As he got closer, he realized that it was a ladder leading up to a covered exit.

He climbed up the rungs, his muscles burning with exertion. When he reached the top, he pushed against the gate with all his might, and it finally gave way with a loud scraping sound.

Kael emerged into the cool night air, gasping for breath. He looked around, disoriented, and realized that he was on the other side of town from where they had entered the sewers.

He staggered down the street, his mind reeling with what had just happened. He couldn't believe that he had abandoned his new friends to face certain death at the hands of those rats.

But as he thought about it more, Kael realized that he had made the right choice. He was not a hero, and he had no business pretending to be one. He was just a rogue, trying to survive in a world that was harsh and unforgiving.

He made his way back to his hideout, his thoughts consumed by the events of the night. He knew that he would never forget what had happened in the sewers beneath Tirovna, and that it would haunt him for the rest of his life.
